Alpamayo & Huscaran The Cordillera Blanca is the highest mountain range in the Peruvian Andes and the highest tropical Cordillera in the world. The region's relatively easy access, excellent climate and friendly people make it perfect for climbing, and this challenging adventures provides some of the most spectacular opportunities that the Andes have to offer you. For 2000 we have joined the ascent of the popular Alpamayo peak( 5947m) with Huascaran (6768m), Peru's highest mountain. |

| You'll have the unique occasion to climb two of the most selected peaks in the Cordillera Blanca in just one challenging expedition. We approach the extraordinary pyramid of Alpamayo from the village of Cashapampa, and make our base camp in the Santa Cruz valley. The Santa Cruz valley is perhaps one of the most beautiful valley in the Cordillera Blanca. Many of the most famous mountains in the region can be seen from the Base Camp. Our expedition begin in the beautiful town of Huaraz, the Peruvian version of Chamonix ( France-the Alps). There we can enjoy buying in the colourful andean markets and dancing as much as we want on the "Tambos" night-clubs. We are going to stay in the confortable Hotel Andino, where we have the best views of the Peruvian Cordillera. The Ferrari Route to Alpamayo Peak consists of 300 meters of ice climbing at an average angle of around 45 degrees. The most difficult section of the route on Alpamayo is the ascent of the icefall to the col below the face of the mountain. Once through this, the climbing is relatively straightforward. After these ascents we descend to Cashapampa and drive back to Huaraz for some rest. Coming back to the mountains we drive to the small town of Musho, at the bottom of Huascaran Peak (6768m). We use high altitude porters to carry all communal equipment to the highest camp so that members are only required to carry their own personal equipment. There are not really technical difficulties on Huascaran and the most important point in this huge mountain is to be well acclimatised when we reach the base camp. The normal route to the Huascaran South Peak is an arduous climb to get the best overlook of the Rio Santa valley. The summit is the best price we can dream with. |
