Skiing
in Patagonia. Region XI. Aysen 10 days.
At the southern
extremity of Chile and Argentina lie the vast expanses of Patagonia. Roughly
one third of Chile and Argentina is in Patagonia, yet only five percent
(5%) of their population resides there. This sparsely populated expanse
- combined with its natural beauty - has acted as a magnet for tourism.
In the southern portion of Patagonia are two of its most famous attractions,
Argentina's Glacier National Park (that includes the famed Fitzroy peak)
and Chile's Towers of Paine. As the tourist trade has boomed, it has become
possible to escape the crowds only with great diligence. However, the
average tourist rarely visits the extensive region located to the north
of this southern portion (which could be dubbed "central Patagonia".
It is a land of beauty and incredible natural wonders without the hordes
of visitors. |
Day 1: Internal flight from Santiago de Chili to Balmaceda. Private transport to Coyhaique. Hotel.
Optional: Over to fly the impressive North Ice Field in small plane from Coyhaique to the lagoon of San Rafael. We will sail by boat until the Glacier San Rafael. We will walk on the Glacier and we will return to Coyhaique as we arrived.
