The Polish Route and Polish Glacier Traverse The Polish Glacier route, named after a Polish team
that first climbed it in 1934, provides a more challenging and technical
climb to the summit of Aconcagua. Like our normal route expedition,
the party departs from the pleasant Andean town of Mendoza with tree-lined
avenues and street cafes. |

The east approach of the mountain requires a three-day trek up the Rio Vaca Valley to the Plaza Argentina base camp at 13,860 ft. (4200 m.). rom the base camp, the route heads towards the Col Ameghino and requires two camps on the lower slopes of the mountain. After the second camp, the route ascends to the right edge of the glacier at a 35 to 45 degree slope to the summit ridge. Then, a moderate climb to Aconcagua's summit. |
| A camp is sometimes made half way up the glacier, depending on conditions and the ascent speed of the party. Regardless of the route, the high altitude and potentially extreme weather is what challenges climbers who ascend the many faces of Aconcagua. However, the reward for persistence and hard work is standing on top of the highest point in the Western Hemisphere and one of "The Seven Summits". |
